Our descriptive analysis was too simplified to be able to conclusively determine a causal relationship between the tourism campaign and COVID-19 incidence in Japan. In particular, it must be acknowledged that the Go To Travel campaign started during a 4-day holiday period. Thus, the enhanced number of tourists traveling throughout the country cannot be attributed solely to the campaign.
